(Senior) Design Engineer

Wärtsilä Marine Power, R&D and Engineering is looking for a (Senior) Design Engineer to develop new design solutions for 4-stroke engines together with experienced R&D engineers. Design tasks will give you a large variety of different engine systems and components focusing on diesel, gas and multifuel 4-stroke engines for Marine and Energy solutions with a view to decarbonization technologies. 
 
In this position, you will be participating in new engine development as well as customer delivery engine design with a good perspective on high-technology solutions for medium-speed reciprocating engines. We provide a good opportunity to learn and grow in the design area. 
 
Position information:
 
The location for this permanent position is preferably in Turku, Finland. Also, Vaasa, Finland and Trieste, Italy can be considered with hybrid remote work possibilities.
 
Responsibilities:
 

  • Design engine components and systems
  • Ensure that alternative designs and solutions are benchmarked
  • Ensure that new designs and solutions comply with legislative rules
  • Ensure that designs are cost-efficient and optimized for manufacturing
  • Qualify the new design tools further on to be used in the design team
  • Participate in the development of new design solutions and engine systems together with R&D experts and/or senior or chief design engineers
  • Give technical support to internal stakeholders

 
Requirements:
 

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Engineering
  • At least 3 years experience of design work
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Meeting facilitation, e-meeting
  • Utilize IM applications and IM tools (MS Office)
  • Practical experience of 3D design tools (NX)
  • Fluent skills in English both written and spoken
  • Hands-on mentality and a structured way of working
  • Readiness to occasional travelling to production sites, suppliers, and customers
  • Experience in R&D tasks
