We are seeking a development operations engineer to join our growing software team located in our software development center in Herndon, VA, USA.


The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.



  • As part of Wärtsilä’s ES&O GEMS software product team you will be responsible for contributing to our deployment, infrastructure, and Kubernetes-related code and scripts.
  • Manage automated systems for code compilation, testing, and deployment.
  • Maintain our mission-critical production environments in Google cloud and GKE.
  • Support staging and testing environments used by our software engineers.
  • Help design or troubleshoot on-site, or cloud connected networks.
  • Deploy and configure our Linux-based power plant controllers.
  • Communicate with our project delivery team and customer network engineers to help solve issues.


Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Mechanical), or I.T.
  • Expertise developing and using infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, Chef, etc.) tools for software deployment and OS configuration. 
  • Expertise configuring and managing Linux-based environments.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language (Bash, Shell, Power Shell, etc.).
  • Experience with at least one programming language (Python, Ruby, Go, etc.).
  • Experience building and using Docker.
  • Experience configuring and deploying to a Kubernetes cluster.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networks and experience configuring network equipment such as switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment using common tools such as JIRA and Git.
  • Ability to embrace a fast-moving environment and comfortable with quickly adapting to changing priorities.
  • Any knowledge and/or interest in electrical concepts, power grids, renewable or green energy is always a plus.
