Wärtsilä Biogas Solutions is a leading player in the global biogas upgrading market. Wärtsilä Biogas Solutions is known for its unique Puregas CApure process, which converts raw biogas into biomethane and renewable natural gas. Biogas is produced from food waste, sewage, manure and crops and consists mainly of methane and carbon dioxide. To improve the energy content the gas is upgraded by removing the carbon dioxide. The upgraded biogas, biomethane, can be injected into the gas grid, used as vehicle fuel, or used for liquefaction (LBG).

 

Wärtsilä Biogas Solutions design, assemble, install and commission CApure biogas upgrading plants and also supply additional equipment such as high-pressure compressors, boilers, flares, H2S removal systems, etc. Wärtsilä's purpose is enabling sustainable societies with smart technology. Wärtsilä Biogas Solutions has over 40 upgrading plants operating and has grown fast in recent years.  

 

Position Description:

 

Wärtsilä Biogas Solutions is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Sales Engineer position in Houston, Texas. The Sales Engineer will work in an international environment with a focus on plants supplied into the USA market. We are seeking to find an energetic, positive, customer-oriented and proactive individual.  The Sales Engineer will report directly to the GM Puregas, North America.

 

The Sales Engineer role requires an individual who not only excels at business development, but also excels at time management and supporting multiple major customers.  This position provides the opportunity to join a fast growing, industry leading company with a global presence and a history of excellence in supporting our customers.

 

Wärtsilä Biogas Solutions’ Sales Engineers mainly work within their local geographical markets. We have

Sales Engineers based in Sweden, Denmark, UK, Ireland, and the USA. We are experiencing significant growth in the USA and seeking to expand our small existing Houston based team.

 

As a Sales Engineer, qualified candidates will be responsible for responding to customer requests for quotation via online portals, websites and emails.  Qualified candidates will handle customer inquiries, expediting orders, resolving issues or problems that arise; including creating proposals, entering orders, checking on status of orders and assisting the customer in any way possible ensuring prompt responses.  The ideal candidate must be self-driven with a desire for growth and possess the ability to create proposals by researching prices from our suppliers and quickly responding to our customers with quotations.

 

Wärtsilä Biogas Solutions Sales Engineers oversee the entire business development process, including supporting management with cost calculations and contract reviews, customer meetings, technical reviews, sourcing, planning resources for site installation of our plants and additional equipment, arranging commissioning, and contract management.

 

The Sales Engineer is the main customer point of contact during the sales process and is responsible for sales and financial performance of each project through to handover to Wärtsilä Biogas Solutions Project Management team.  It is a varied and demanding role, and requires excellent organizational and commercial skills, as well as technical ability and good people management skills. The role will be based at our office in Houston; however, there might be opportunity to work from home at times.

 

The role requires some travel, which varies dependent on customer requirements and marketing activities, but could be 30-50 days per year.  We have an experienced and enthusiastic team of engineers and process technicians with a ‘can do’ culture, and provide good support and training as needed.

 

Qualified candidates will interface with employees in other departments and locations while being a part of a dynamic sales driven environment.  To be successful, qualified candidates will be adept at multi-tasking, organized, detail-oriented and flexible enough to deal with ever-changing deadlines. The ideal candidate will communicate well with others, enjoy working with people and be a valuable company representative.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quotes for customers and follow up in a timely manner.
  • Source products; researching pricing from established suppliers.
  • Enter orders and expedite to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Assist design, project and service engineers working with customers.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Provides support in the creations of project proposal.
  • Contract reviews.
  • Marketing planning personnel and resources.
  • Financial control and follow-up on monthly basis.
  • Being the customer interface until project management take-over.
  • Source the CApure plant and additional equipment from other suppliers, including coordinating resources for commissioning, aftermarket support.
  • Coordinate resources for site installation, commissioning and start-up, training, plant performance tests and hand-over (with internal support from Biogas’ Aftermarket technicians).
  • Technical support for marketing, during business development and sales process.
  • Other duties as required or assigned by company management.
  • This position is located in Houston, Texas, USA.

 

Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements: 

  • Chemical Engineering Degree is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Superior customer service skills to deal with both internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation.
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to use the Microsoft Office product suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or team structure.
  • Independent, responsible, self-motivated, driven, personable and well-organized. Does not require strong supervision.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of US & Canadian engineering practice & standards.
  • Strong self-management and client relationship skills.

 

Languages:

  • Fluent in English (written and oral).

 

Travel:

  • Qualified candidates must be willing to travel domestically and internationally and work in a global team of professionals (50%).
