Business Controller, Water and Waste Processing

Wärtsilä’s Water and Waste business line (WAW) supplies the customer advanced waste management solutions to secure maximized energy efficiency and minimised discharge impact. Additionally, WAW is the market leader in fresh water generation systems for cruise vessels.

 

Having recently transitioned into the Portfolio business unit, Water and Waste are looking for a Business Controller on a Fixed Term Contract of up to 12 months to support the business through a period of change. Reporting into the Director, Business Control Water & Waste, the successful candidate will be based from our office Poole, UK. 

 

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

 

  • As the co-pilot to the Director Business Control Water & Waste, you will lead, manage and develop the Water & Waste business to reach short-term business targets
  • Ensure reliable and high-quality financial information is in place necessary to steer and develop the growth and development of the business
  • Based on financial business information, proactively analyse business opportunities and make proposals for business development, e.g. investments, divestments, partnerships or mergers and acquisitions
  • Hold business accountable for delivering business results and acting in the best interests of Wärtsilä
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, reporting, monthly closing and other finance related activities in compliance with Corporate guidelines (corporate manual, accounting manual, directives etc) and IFRS/IAS
  • Ensure that the Wärtsilä global initiatives, processes and tools are implemented within own area of responsibility
  • As a member of the Water & Waste Processing management team, participate in defining the strategies and action plans as well as the overall development of the business

  • Proven experience of operating at a senior level and supporting businesses through a period of change
  • Ability to steer the business through advanced financial planning, forecasting and business analysis
  • Professional knowledge of the financial tools, procedures and guidelines
  • Extensive knowledge of most of the following: corporate governance, forecasting, profitability analysis, credit management, IFRS, internal controls
  • Experience of financial reporting systems with the ability to navigate multiple systems to source data and verify data accuracy
  • Excellent influencing, communication and negotiation skills
  • Strategic, long-term approach coupled with monthly and quarterly focus in reporting and business analysis
  • Strong team player mindset and solution orientation
  • Leadership skills and ability to develop others’ potential, set targets, coach, give feedback and build a strong team
  • M.Sc., Economics or similar education
  • Proven experience of relevant business controlling positions in a global and complex business setting
