Sales Expert, Technological Simulation

We are actively seeking a Sales Expert, Technological Simulation who will drive the sale of technologically advanced and bespoke technical simulation solutions with clients who are subject matter experts in marine engineering. To be successful in this role, you will have marine engineering knowledge as well as a good sense of communication. Knowledge of technical simulators is advantageous but not essential.


The successful candidate will be employed on a permanent basis and will ideally be based out of our offices in Portsmouth, UK however for the right candidate we would consider locations of Hamburg, Germany, and Italy. Please be aware there will be national and international travel as part of the role.



What are your main tasks and responsibilities?


Sales & Business Development

  • Realization of Order Intake in the region for designated solutions
  • Customer interactions across the assigned region, closing business using product expertise
  • Support customers with subject matter expertise and promote Wärtsilä solutions

Account Management

  • The Sales Expert is the key lead in the Region in keeping existing customers up to date with new developments regarding the assigned product. The goal is to secure system upgrades and enhancements through continued long term relationships. This can be achieved via seminars, webex or planned trips in specific territories (coordinated with the Sales manager)
  • Support and review technical queries from customers and help position potential solutions to the problem. Escalate within the organization when necessary


  • Timely reporting using the correct formats to keep the organisation informed
  • Contributing to strategic planning, regional plans, forecasting, budgets and promotion plans

Product Development

  • Provide market intelligence and product improvements to Solutions
  • Represent Wärtsilä at Industry Exhibitions, (Partner) conferences, etc.
  • Support customer trials, field tests and POC’s with product expertise and positioning to the customer



What do we expect from you?


  • Qualified to Bachelor or Master Degree level in a relevant technical field 
  • Knowledge, direct experience and subject matter expertise in Marine Engineering is essential
  • Onboard Marine experience would be advantageous
  • Sales experience in the martime sector or B2B sales is desirable but not essential
  • International networking and cross-cultural understanding would be advantageous
  • Good communicator with the ability to build effective working relationships across key stakeholders
  • Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • IT literate with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages and experience of using ERP and CRM applications is advantageous
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability and willingness to travel (national and international) 30 - 40% of the time
  • Driving licence
