(Senior) Development Manager

We are looking for a (Senior) Development Manager who is customer-focused, service-minded team player to join us as our technical lead for the Service Configurator application and its platform.
Our Marine and Energy agreement businesses are using a Service Configurator (SC) tool for preparing long-term service agreements. An old version of the tool has reached its end of life, and we are currently developing a new version. Our ambition is to deliver a modern, scalable, and cloud-compliant sales tool in 2027, supporting the long-term strategic growth targets of both businesses.
Location: Preferably Vaasa, but Turku and Helsinki can be considered.
Your role and responsibilities
As the Development Manager, you will be part of our development team designing and implementing technical solutions to support required features and user requirements for the new Service Configurator. You will work closely with stakeholders, end-users, our Project Manager and Product Owner to deliver business value. In this role, you will secure high quality of solutions being developed and deployed.
You are also expected to secure business continuity with the old Service Configurator tool, which needs to be available until it can finally be decommissioned.
Key responsibilities

Act as the Technical Lead/Team lead of the Service Configurator platform

Manage and become responsible for technical design and development of the new Service Configurator

Create sustainable designs that fits the overall architecture including data models that support business use cases and conduct comprehensive assessments for solutions to be developed

Define and oversee the deployment process and secure technical deployments

Assume the lead developer role after the 1st release

Review and accept completed work together with the Product Owner, ensuring technical requirements are met and deliveries follow company standards and security policies

Own and maintain the codebase (React, Python), APIs, and technical documentation

Manage developer access rights and required technical permissions

Serve as the application portfolio owner and main point of contact for Wärtsilä IT

Collaborate with Marine and Energy development teams to identify dependencies, synergies, and opportunities for cross-team cooperation

Stay up-to-date on IT trends, customer needs, and the competitive landscape, and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation
To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:

Minimum of 10 years of proven experience as a technical lead, software architect, software engineer, or in a comparable role

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Strong leadership and coaching skills, with a genuine interest in developing people

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
-
Experience with AWS or Azure development (or similar cloud-based microservices technologies)

Strong record of designing and developing complex and large technical solutions and acting as a technical lead (data-model/architectural mindset, turning requirements to technical designs, configuration, usability, testing). Knowledge about graph database modelling is a benefit.

Strong technical hands-on knowledge and competence of the AWS or Azure platforms

Experience with agile ways of working and DevOps practices

Software engineering skills and practical experience using AI-assisted development tools

Knowledge of quotation tools and SAP and Salesforce environments is an advantage

Understanding of Wärtsilä’s business, products, and sales processes is beneficial

Excellent English skills (written and spoken), with strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities in cross-functional environments
