(Senior) Sales Engineer

We are looking for a (Senior) Sales Engineer with a main responsibility in energy storage. This is a permanent role, and the preferred location for this position is Vaasa, Finland, but other Wärtsilä locations in Finland are also negotiable. We offer the possibility to work in a hybrid model.
Your role and responsibilities
As a Sales Engineer, you will be the subject matter expert for Wärtsilä Energy Storage in the Europe and Africa regions, with expertise in the technical design of systems and the identification of business models that support the economic case for deploying energy storage.
The ideal candidate has a BSc or MSc degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Engineering and experience with the energy storage and renewable energy markets. The final scope and seniority of the role will be tailored to match the experience and competencies of the selected candidate. You’ll be working as part of an energetic sales engineering team with diverse expertise.
Your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- Work closely with the sales team to help identify and engage with key customers/accounts within the area, and support and maintain relationships related to Energy Storage
- Manage the RFP response process, including determining bidding strategy and partner selection, and work together with such partners to submit winning responses and draft the actual proposal
- Lead proposal creation for Energy Storage projects
- Write proposal content to meet specific customer requirements and highlight the unique value points of the integrated solution
- Specify appropriate system components, calculate component ratings and quantities, and create detailed bills of material for material and labor cost estimates
- Interface with vendors to understand the form, fit, and function of their products and services, and determine which products are best suited for an application or project
- Utilize value concepts and tools to define the right value solutions for each individual customer
- Help further develop Sales Tools for Energy Storage
To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:
- A BSc or MSc degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- Experience in energy storage and renewable energy markets, including familiarity with related projects and technologies (e.g., bi-directional inverters, battery chemistries, PV systems, wind turbines, flywheels, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret system schematics, single-line diagrams, and layout drawings
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with a proven ability to produce clear, well-structured technical proposal documents and present solutions effectively to customers
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent drafting tools
- Knowledge of utility systems and grid interconnection requirements for electric generators
- A passion for innovation and the ability to adapt to fast-changing market demands, working both independently and as part of a team
- A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with a focus on delivering results
- Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and a solid work ethic
- An energetic and enthusiastic approach to work
- Willingness to travel as required (approximately 10–20% of the time)
