Product Engineering in Engine Power Plant’s Product Management is a vital role to ensure our product portfolio is well managed and ready to serve the needs of the whole engine power plants business. We focus on well designed, well documented and configurable Base Solutions that enable efficient project sales, -delivery and lifecycle support. To achieve this, we have strong teams around our Product Platforms with Chief (Senior) Design Engineers to lead respective area of Mechanical & Process, Electrical & Automation and Civil.
We are now looking for one Chief (Senior) Design Engineers, Mechanical & Process for W32/34 and W50 platforms. You will be a member of the Product Management team and report to the Product Manager for W32/34 and W50 Power Plants. The preferred location is Vaasa, Finland. We offer a possibility to hybrid work.
Your role and responsibilities:
As a Chief (Senior) Design Engineer, Mechanical & Process you will be a cornerstone of the team and have full responsibility for the mechanical & process domain. You will ensure that our base solutions are well maintained, ready to be sold and you lead upfront engineering work to minimise repetitive activities between different customer delivery projects. You collaborate closely with sales-, delivery- and lifecycle teams to collect feedback and deliver continuous improvements through regular product releases. The Chief (Senior) Design Engineer position offers you hands-on power plant engineering work and to follow your products all the way from design to operation. The seniority of this role will be adjusted by the expertise and experience level. Our team is committed to helping you develop the skills you need to succeed in this role.
Your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- Defining the concepts and leading the mechanical & process development work for your product platform
- Performing design tasks, as well as specifying, ordering and coordinating design work with suppliers and partners
- Collaborating with other domain experts & other Chief Design Engineers to maximise the synergies across our product portfolio
- Collecting feedback and learnings for sales cases and delivery projects for continuous improvement of base solutions and portfolio products. Feedback is documented in the backlog and communicated to other relevant stakeholders.
- Managing the backlog for mechanical & process tasks, based on prioritisation and alignment with Product Owner
- Ensuring product portfolio and related data is up-to-date in all tools (compass, APEX, APEX configurator etc)
- Guiding in the selection and configuration of base solution for a specific sales case and for supporting project team in tailoring the base solution for project specific needs
- Contributing to our design tools strategy and related way of working
- Ensuring designs are in line with the defined modular architecture to ensure we enable a high degree of modularity and configurability (CTO) in delivery projects
To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:
- Have a solid understanding of our power plant solutions and preferably have more than 5 years of project execution and/or engineering experience from the engine power plants business
- Have good experience in design work and master engineering design tools (eg. AutoCAD, Teamcenter, NX)
- Have a passion for continuously improving our products and ways of working
- Understand internal and external customer needs and requirements and can turn these into practical solutions
- Are a strong collaborator with coordination skills and want to work with a wide range of stakeholders
- Are able to work in a structured manner; you master the product backlog and plan quarterly releases
- Are comfortable with an agile way of working
- Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Fluent written and spoken English

- Utilisation rate of base solutions in delivery projects
- Product releases according to roadmap
