Power Supply is a business unit with over 2000 professionals in close to 20 locations globally. Our focus is centred on developing the Wärtsilä engine portfolio and ensuring high quality supply and delivery of engines for Marine and Energy Business needs through active development of the product portfolio, driving and enabling system integration, and an uncompromised customer centricity in all activities.

 

For our Product Management and Sales Support business function, we are now looking for a motivated and experienced Cost Engineer, W32 & W34. The role is offered as a permanent contract and the preferred location is Vaasa, Finland.

 

 

What will you be doing?

 

As Cost Engineer, W32 & W34 in Power Supply Product Management and Sales Support, you will play a crucial part in supporting our Product Cost down initiatives and ensuring the cost competitiveness of our products. You will work closely with the Technical and Commercial Manager for the product to achieve our set product development and profitability goals. Reporting to the Head of Product Management & Product Owner, W32 & W34, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the success of our organisation.

 

 

Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Working closely with product and technical management to improve the product cost structure and identify ideas for product cost reduction.
  • Taking accountability for product design change cost analysis, product cost down roadmap, product material (change) roadmap, product cost benchmarking reports, and data reliability of product data.
  • Chairing the Product Line cross-functional team meeting to monitor and coordinate cost down activities.
  • Following up on the cost gate model for new design introduction.
  • Monitoring product cost development against business case and product cost target.
  • Maintaining the basic product concept and participating in the development of the product cost model.
  • Updating product price lists (including options) according to MP Product costing directive.
  • Providing support for pricing of new products and special applications.
  • Checking BOM correctness (including new releases) and make or buy variations.
  • Conducting monthly product cost analysis.
  • Checking and approving rolling forecast data for own products.
  • Assessing product cost reporting and initiating and suggesting changes to processes or tools.
  • Reviewing cost calculations and estimating margins for new and ongoing projects.
  • Preparing material for Product Portfolio Management Forums.

  • Understanding of the product and technical requirements related to cost, product competitiveness, and value proposition.
  • Solid fact-based decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Financial understanding.
  • Proactive and positive can-do attitude.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional setting and managing stakeholder requirements.
  • Track record from similar positions is considered an advantage.
