Data Architect, Product Data

Wärtsilä Energy leads the transition towards a 100% renewable energy future. We help our partners to accelerate their decarbonisation journeys through our market-leading technologies and power system modelling expertise. These cover decarbonisation services, future-fuel enabled balancing power plants, hybrid solutions, energy storage and optimisation technology, including the GEMS Digital Energy Platform.

Did you know Wärtsilä has delivered 79 GW of power plant capacity and more than 130 energy storage installations in 180 countries around the world?

In this fast changing world of energy, we are constantly on the lookout for future-oriented talent to join our team and to work towards enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services - together. Want to join the ride?

Do you thrive on bringing structure to complex data landscapes and enabling smarter decision-making? Join us and help shape how product and operational data is aligned across Wärtsilä’s power plant portfolio.

We are looking for a Data Architect to drive data alignment across multiple dimensions of Wärtsilä power plants, including assets, systems, and portfolio views. The preferred location for this position is one of our Finland sites (Vaasa, Helsinki, or Turku), and we offer hybrid working.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Data Architect, you will define and maintain the structures, standards, and data models that connect operational (IoT) data generated by assets with installed-base and portfolio product data. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across disciplines and lifecycle stages, working within our architecture community as part of the Product Data & Architecture Center of Excellence.

Key responsibilities

· Design scalable, secure, and well-governed data architectures across domains (e.g., PLM, ERP, SCADA, and IoT systems).

· Lead the architectural design and integration between operational data and installed-base/portfolio data

· Drive tag and process-data standardisation and master data governance using industrial data standards.

· Holistically oversee the domain, creating visions and exploring opportunities

· Create roadmaps and drive implementation

· Follow relevant data legislation and policies, evaluating impact and ensuring compliance

To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:

· MSc (or higher) in Computer Science, IT or other relevant field with at least 5 years of working experience relevant to the data architecture domain.

· Proven experience in data architecture, information modelling, or lifecycle data management in industrial or engineering environments.

· Strong understanding of PLM structures, equipment taxonomy and material master data.

· Experience of operational and maintenance data (historians, SCADA, alarms, events etc.).

· Practical experience working with industrial data standards such as IEC/ISO 81346, ISA-18.2 / IEC 62682 or ISO 15926.

· Ability to define and govern reference data models, naming conventions, taxonomies, metadata, and cross-system mappings.

· Ability to translate complex cross-domain data needs into clear architectural designs, with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

· Experience defining integration patterns across multiple systems, having worked hands on with various APIs.

· Understanding of event-driven architectures and change propagation (e.g. Kafka, queues, MQTT) is seen as an advantage.

Why you and us?

We at Wärtsilä believe in empowerment, ownership and taking responsibility of our work. We support each other’s growth, and co-creation is the true basis of our innovation. We have courage to see opportunities and take initiative.

We are authentic and honest, and we strongly believe in that by being your own true self you can accomplish so much more. We don’t always get it right the first time, and if mistakes are made, we make sure to learn and grow from them. We want everyone to voice their opinions freely. That is why we have built an environment that empowers you and everyone around you, and where you can feel safe and cared for. Are you eager to be part of this ambition?

We have an amazing team, and we are excited about our work and the impact it has on building sustainable societies. We are looking to find a colleague with this shared passion for smart technologies and a sustainable future.

Last application date: 26/04/2026

At Wärtsilä we value, respect and embrace all our differences, and are committed to diversity, inclusion and equal employment opportunities; everyone can be their true self and succeed based on their job-relevant merits and abilities.
