Wärtsilä Marine Solutions is looking for a Simulation Expert to join the Structural Analysis team.
As a member of the team, you will perform demanding numerical analyses using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and support product and technology development through advanced simulations and engineering expertise.
The work consists of performing, analysing, and reporting simulations related to dynamics, fatigue, stress, and structural strength. The position is located in Vaasa, Finland and/or Trieste, Italy.
Responsibilities
In this role, your main responsibilities will include:
- Performing and reporting mechanical simulations related to product and technology development projects.
- Developing and maintaining simulation methodologies and processes to support first-time-right product development and reduce time to market.
- Solving complex structural strength and durability challenges.
- Analysing simulation and measurement data to support engineering decisions.
- Identifying, proposing, and initiating training activities to maintain and further develop technical competencies.
- Focusing on the following component areas:
- Cylinder heads and valve mechanisms
- Fuel systems
- Gas systems
- Optional area of responsibility:
- Noise simulation development
- Machine learning and digitalization development
Requirements
To be successful in this position, we expect you to have:
- MSc or PhD degree in Engineering.
- Strong theoretical knowledge of numerical analysis methods and tools, such as:
- Abaqus
- HyperMesh
- Simlab
- Optistruct
- Or similar simulation software
- Good communication skills in English. Knowledge of Finnish and/or Swedish is considered an advantage.
- Ability to work effectively in an international organization.
- A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Flexibility and strong teamwork skills.
- An innovative and solution-oriented mindset

- AI and data analytics skills, including:
- Machine learning
- Signal processing
- Experience with other numerical methods, such as:
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Numerical noise analysis
- Multiphysics simulations
The primary location for this role is Finland, but this role can also be based in Italy where the annual salary range would be 42 313 EUR –59 298 EUR in accordance with the salary provisions in the National Collective Labor Agreement for workers in the metalworking and plant installation industry (CCNL Metalmeccanico). The final salary offered will depend on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the required competencies, and your relevant education, skills, and experience.
