We are looking for a forward-looking and people-oriented Manager to lead the Engine Component and Performance Experts team within Product Lifecycle Management / Global Technical Services. This is a key leadership role for someone who wants to combine deep technical understanding, modern people leadership, data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement to create measurable value for customers and for Wärtsilä.
Ideally the candidate would be based in either Vaasa Finland, but we are open to qualified applicants also in Trieste, Italy or Turku, Finland on a permanent basis.
We operate hybrid working in Finland and Smart-working hybrid in Italy. We will not consider a fully remote working option on any of our three preferred locations.
There will be requirement to travel within the role up to 20% of the time.
The team consists of approximately 20 highly skilled experts working with 4-stroke engine products for industrial and marine applications, with a strong focus on engine performance, fuel injection, turbocharging, cylinder heads, valve train and power system components.
Main responsibilities:
- Proper resources are allocated to fulfil business needs
- Resources are trained and develop their competences for all technologies and components in the area of expertise
- Connections to Technical Service product teams provide consolidated product feedback
- Networking with R&D is bringing lifecycle knowledge for product development and new product introduction
- New Technologies are introduced within Technical Service well in advance to secure proper preparation of resources
- R&D is considering lifecycle technical needs
- Innovation culture is spread into Technical Service
- New portfolio solutions are proposed for existing products
We are especially looking for a manager who can bring a modern approach to technical leadership, including:
- Strong people leadership based on trust, clarity, empowerment and coaching
- A data-driven mindset, using facts, analytics and performance indicators to improve decisions and prioritisation
- Ability to transform field experience and expert knowledge into structured learning, technical standards and product improvement input
- Curiosity towards digital tools, AI-supported knowledge management and modern ways of sharing technical competence
- A collaborative and improvement-oriented attitude, able to connect experts, R&D, supply management, field service, workshops and business stakeholders
Interview Schedule:
We anticipate first round interview to happen in week 37 (7-11 Sept) with final round interviews if required, ideally in week 38 (14-18 Sept) when the hiring manager plans to be local to Vaasa, Finland.
However whilst this this is opened for an extended period due to the extended summer vacation periods in Europe, we reserve the right to move forward with individuals during the advertising period.

Pay Transparency
The primary location for this role is Finland, but this role can also be based in Trieste, Italy where the annual salary range would be 53,317 EUR – 75,082 EUR in accordance with the salary provisions in the applicable National Collective Labour Agreement for workers in the metalworking and plant installation industry (CCNL Metalmeccanico).
At Wärtsilä, we are committed to fair and transparent pay. The salary range shared reflects the expected compensation for this role in that Italian location, based on market data and our job architecture.
The final salary will be influenced by factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the required competencies, and your relevant education, skills, and experience / and the salary provisions in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. We also take internal equity into account to ensure a fair and consistent approach across our organisation.
