Performance Expert

Wärtsilä R&D and Engineering is looking for Performance Expert or Senior Performance Expert.

 

Engine performance development is an activity within R&D and Engineering, System Integration and Performance. The task of a performance expert is to develop outstanding performance (turbocharging, emissions, power output, fuel consumption, etc.) for our engines operating on traditional and sustainable fuels together with engine design, engine testing and product engineering. 
The title of the employee depends on the experience level.

 

Location: The position is in Vaasa, Finland.

 

You would be joining one of the two teams of experts in Vaasa. Currently the engine performance team consists of 23 persons located in Vaasa and Trieste.

 

Required skills:

  • Theoretical skills on one or more of the following areas: engine performance, thermodynamics, turbocharging, exhaust gas emissions of engines, fluid dynamics, combustion chemistry, engine performance controls
  • Independent personality and ability to perform accurate, analytical, time-bound, and systematic work
  • Good written and oral English
  • Good team working, communication, and reporting skills
  • Good skills in MS Excel

 

Education:

  • Technical education, MSc or BSc

 

Experience:

  • Previous experience with research or development activities, product engineering, diesel/gas engines, engine testing, engine performance controls or equivalent is preferred and seen as merit.
  • Experience with GT-Power simulation software is seen as a merit

 

Main responsibilities – depending on your skillset and experience you will be working on some of the following topics:

  • Development of engine performance concepts & performance technologies including the new aspects rising from the sustainable fuels (such as ammonia, hydrogen, and methanol)
  • Engine performance testing (e.g., combustion system optimization tests, turbocharger matching tests), including test planning, data analysis, and reporting
  • Engine performance control development & testing
  • Engine simulations with GT-Power software
  • Engine performance support for various internal teams such as testing & validation teams, engine component expert teams, engine design teams, production test run, and technical services.
