Remote Diagnostics Expert, Four-Stroke Engines

Do you have an interest in troubleshooting and analyzing the performance of four-stroke engines? Then this job may be for you. 

 

We are a department of more than 14 experts who follow the condition of Wärtsilä four-stroke engines and report deviations from expected behaviour to customer. We use the digital tool “Expert Insight”, which tells us if some of the sensor data on the engine is outside of what can be considered normal for the engine type, and also if something has drastically changed in the engine. Data from engine sensors come from the field via an internet connection and the digital tool uses artificial intelligence and rules set up by engine experts. 
The engines we monitor are primarily on ships under maintenance agreements where there is a dedicated team of Wärtsilä experts delivering services for the customer. We do routine work in the form of sending notifications and reports to customers, thereby proactively keeping engines in good condition.

 

We are now looking for reinforcements to our offices in Singapore and Finland (Vaasa or Turku).

 

There are several possible profiles you can have:

 

  • You can be an engineer with a hands-on background who is comfortable giving advice to customers about four-stroke engines when something is noticed to be deviating. You background can be in marine operation (chief engineer etc), engine field service, R&D, engine manufacturing or similar. You are comfortable working with numbers in the form of tables and graphs and understand the basics of mathematics behind them, but you are not a mathematician or IT engineer yourself.
  • You can be a mechanical or automation engineer (B.Sc or M.Sc.) in the beginning of your career who is interested in four-stroke engines and willing to focus on mathematical and IT aspects of diagnostics. While you will have the same operational tasks as the rest of the team, you will also give feedback to developers of IT tools, participate in taking new tools into use and be an expert on their mathematical aspects in the team.

 

Other requirements for the role:

 

  • Willingness to work in a structured way with routine work
  • Willingness to work as expert and team player
  • Good written and verbal communication skills as well as proficiency in English

 

We offer you tutoring to get into the role, and after that continuous training and skills updating so that you will be a full-fledged expert on four-stroke engine diagnostics. You will work in a team where everyone is supporting each other and discussing together their interesting cases. You will get to work with state-of-the art digital tools (including artificial intelligence) and be part of a modern, global business. Your customers will be located all over the world and you will be working in English only.
