Senior development engineer, Intelligent Controls​

We are looking for a Senior Development Engineer, Intelligent Controls to our newly established Intelligent Controls team. Intelligent Controls is part of our new Power Systems & Control function and is responsible for developing the solutions and technologies needed to enable autonomous plants and power systems and for enabling a data driven business.


In this role you will have as main responsibility development of new control features for thermal and hybrid power plants. This is a newly established role. The preferred location is Vaasa, Finland.



  • Develop new control functionalities towards autonomous plants and power systems on both OT as well as IT part of the plant controls
  • Coordinate and co-create developments with suppliers and partners
  • Work closely with internal teams such as Energy Storage & Optimisation, Digital Product Development, Energy Services, Engine RDE as well as Energy Business projects and sales
  • Participate in building up continuous integration and deployment infrastructure of future solutions
  • Implement Cyber Security, IEC-62443, requirements on selected products
  • Support and troubleshoot existing solutions
  • Present new products & solutions to internal audiences
  • Provide support and training to sales and projects
  • Proactively connect with customers and listen to feedback

  • You hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Automation with at least 3 years of relevant experience of development activities
  • You are proficient in developing OT level controls utilizing IEC 61131-3 programming standards and process control development
  • You have good Python and Java knowledge
  • Experience with model based control development utilizing Matlab/Simulink is seen as a plus
  • Experience with Machine learning as well as broad understanding of Artificial Intelligence technologies and applicability to different areas
  • Knowledge of Cyber Security, IEC-62443 standard and practical implications
  • Experience of utilizing data as driver for development
  • Knowledge of power plant processes and their controls
  • Experience in AWS, Google Cloud services is seen as a plus
  • Experience with containerized solutions such as Docker etc. is seen as a plus
  • Experience with automated testing on different levels is seen as a plus
  • Ability to think out-of-the-box and challenge conventional ways of working
  • Strategic mindset and scenario work, seeing the big picture and plan for the future
  • Good analytical skills, as well as creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent planning and execution skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English
