We are hiring 500 students from all technical and business fields to work with us in different positions, located in Vaasa, Helsinki and Turku with remote opportunities and flexible ways of working.

Engineering and technology at Wärtsilä covers departments and functions throughout our businesses. Our technical experts are a vital part in enabling us to move towards our goals of decarbonisation and visions of the future. Our engineers deal with a variety of tasks like automation, robotics, programming as well as electrical and mechanical design. Our Research and Development teams are also covered under this application category.  This means the tasks in this category will vary depending on the team you are selected for and may be related to things like documentation, design, 3D printing, project support, agile project management, process development and much more.  



All work for both engineering and technology in general as well as for R&D is guided by the Wärtsilä purpose as well as our task related targets, safety guidelines and quality standards. Continuous development and innovation are a part of daily tasks, so you will also get the chance to help us develop our operations within your responsibility area. You will have independent work responsibilities while supporting your team in daily tasks and reporting.  


As a trainee, your position may fit into various areas of expertise depending on your interest and studies.

We are looking for motivated and energetic students with a “can-do” attitude. We value team players with the ability to cooperate in a multicultural environment.  


As an ideal candidate you have:

  • On-going BSc. Or MSc. studies in a relevant field, like: 
    • Mechanical, Process, Civil, Chemical or Electrical Engineering, Automation, Information Technology, Energy Technology, Software Development, Construction or similar 
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken 
  • Good communication and documentation skills 
  • Active, result oriented attitude towards work and the ability to see the big picture  
  • Good problem solving and decision-making skills 
  • Systematic, analytical and detail focused way of working 
  • Interest on solving technical challenges

Please note that mentioned knowledge and skills are examples and applicable to different positions. You are not expected to cover all of these but do remember to mention the ones that apply to you.  


  • Hands-on experience in Data Science or Software Development 
  • Hands-on experience of engines (machining, installation, assembly or through personal interest) 
  • Being tech savvy in one or more of the mentioned: C, C++, Java, Angular, Python, Javascript, Reach, React, Docker, Cloud technologies, SAP, RPA (robotics process development) or similar 
  • Experience in DevOps tools and systems 
  • Interest in project management and knowledge of PM frameworks (like agile) 
  • Electronic design skills 
  • Sensor technology knowhow 
  • Presentation and negotiation skills 
  • Skills in control & measurement systems 
  • Understanding of Business Analytics tools  
  • Experience with Product Data Management systems (like TeamCenter)  
  • Knowledge, interest or experience in Service Design / UX design  
  • Knowledge or experience in Siemens NX, AutoCad or similar 
  • Knowledge in Swedish, Finnish as wells as other languages
