System Engineer

We are looking for a System Engineer. You will be a part of the growing Project Delivery Team and report to the Senior Manager, This position is permanent and the ideal location is Vaasa, Finland, however Helsinki / Turku could also be considered and we acknowledge and welcome applicants from the UK also. We would require applicants to have employment permission to be based in either Finland or the UK and will not be sponsoring visa applications or international relocation at this time. 


About the position:

This position will provide services to support engineering design, development and project completion within a specific technical area.

The System Engineer is responsible for participating in the proposal process, technical contractual review, technical contractual exhibit creation and management, scheduling, overseeing the Project Design (Electrical Design Package, Communication, and minor Software), Commissioning, and Technical Support of AC and DC electrical systems associated with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Key accountabilities:

  • Delivers engineering solutions, provides support in design, development and project completion to achieve quality and productivity.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver tailored engineering solutions that meet requirements and to integrate engineering expertise into broader organizational initiatives.
  • Drives innovation in engineering practices, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance product and system development. Develops and refines engineering processes, methods, and tools to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness of the solutions.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert, mentoring and providing technical guidance to other professionals.
  • Stays updated on industry trends and technological advancements to inform decisions and maintain competitive edge.
  • Ensures engineering activities and projects comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices, maintaining the highest levels of quality and safety.
     

Applicants should have a solid understanding of:

  • Contractual language and terms
  • Fundamental electrical engineering, project management, and construction principles, as well as experience with the designs of high-power electrical systems.


We are also open to receiving applications from current/previous On Call Trainee's whose vocational experience with Wartsila would give them good ability to integrate quickly into the team.

This position will be a member of Wartsila's internal and customer technical Subject Matter Expert Team for ESS Products and Projects and will work closely with the following groups: 

  • Business Development
  • Proposal Teams
  • Software Delivery
  • Product Delivery
  • Project Management
  • Commissioning Manager
  • Other various groups to ensure ESS projects fulfil customer functionality and contract requirements.
