We are now looking for a dynamic Technical Expert to join our skilled Wärtsilä 31 engine team in Wärtsilä Global Technical Services. The role is offered as a permanent contract and will be based in Vaasa, Finland. We welcome applicants at various levels of seniority, as this role can be offered as Technical Support Engineer, Technical Expert, or Senior Technical Expert.
What will you be doing?
As a Technical Expert in the Wärtsilä 31 Engine team, you will work within our globally recognised Technical Services department. This role involves providing high-level technical support for our products to both external and internal customers throughout the product lifecycle. Acting as a crucial link between R&D and the field, you will identify and initiate product improvements. You will tackle complex technical issues by performing root cause analyses, leveraging your experience and expertise. Your responsibilities will also include conducting investigations and field tests at customer sites when necessary. Additionally, you will oversee the technical content in aftersales information, such as engine manuals and service bulletins.
This exciting role involves both domestic and international travel for approximately 50 – 100 days per year. When you are not traveling, you will be able to work partially remotely, in accordance with our hybrid work model.
Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to:
- Providing high level engine expert support for internal and external Marine and Power Plant customers.
- Making product improvements and participating in the introduction and design stages of new products and solutions.
- Performing field testing of new products in the field.
- Making feedback analyses, product reports, and product documentation.
- Conducting site surveys and troubleshooting in the field.
- Following up and solving problems together with other technical departments.
- Supporting other departments in need of product and field related knowledge.
- Being an innovative expert in Wärtsilä’s expert organisation.
The below will enable you to shine in this role:
- BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, equivalent educational background, or qualifications gained through work experience.
- Experience with 4-stroke engines and related auxiliary equipment.
- Experience with troubleshooting, performance analysis, and technical reporting.
- Motivation and genuine interest to work with 4-stroke engines.
- Experience with analysis and reporting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Structured, analytical, and proactive way of working.
- Flexible attitude, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently.
- Ambition to learn, develop, and adapt to new technologies.
- Proficient English language skills, both written and spoken. Finnish or Swedish language skills are advantageous.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel 50 - 100 days per year.
- Drive for the common goal of providing our customers with the best possible service experience.
