Technical Project Manager

We are now looking for a Technical Project Manager to join our Project Engineering Team.



The preferred location for the position is in Vaasa, Finland. 


What will you be doing:
The Project Engineering team consists of multidisciplinary and multi portfolio engineering teams for both Engine and Propulsion products. Our Goal is to provide timely and cost effectively top-quality engineering that creates value for our Customers and enables profitable growth for Wärtsilä Marine Power. 


The Technical Project Manager is accountable for executing Product Development Projects for both Marine Power and Energy Business. This includes project- planning, follow-up, financial reporting, on-time delivery and within the available budget.


Next to the Project Management skills strong technical product knowledge is required in order to lead a project team consists of multi disciplinairy Senior Development Engineers. The focuss area shall be mainly 4-stroke engines however it could also be possible that involvement is required in the field of propulsion in general.


As Technical Project Manager, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Serve both Product Management and Business Development  with development needs. This includes early involvement in business cases, feasibility studies or competitive edge studies.
  • Manage And coordinate engine laboratory- and field tests.
  • Good skills in communication are required to be able to communicate and translate in such a way that project stakeholders understand technical complex topics. Project stakeholders could be Product Management, Business Development, Customer Representatives as well as the different engineering teams.
  • These communication requirements are imposed in English.
  • The Technical Project Manager is the spider in the web and acts like an intermediate between Project Engineering and all other stakeholders. Due to the upcoming decarbonization demands a strong network must be maintained in order to set priorities and deliver results considering the available capacity market demands and available budgets.
  • The Technical Project Manager is responsible for initiating the required procurement actions and hiring of external engineering or capacity.
