Project Engineer

 

Wärtsilä is currently recruiting for the position of Maritime Service Engineer within the Wärtsilä Voyage, Valbonne subsidiary of Wärtsilä Corporation.

 

Wärtsilä Voyage Transas leads the way in creating harmonised integrated solutions including fleet operations solutions, simulation & training, and ship traffic control. All solutions can be connected to the ecosystem, effectively a community working together on a cloud-based shared data platform to enable smarter operations, safety and navigation. It currently has net annual sales in the region of EUR 140 million and employs approximately 1000 people working from 22 regional offices worldwide.

 

This role is within the European Project Management group’s engineering team. The group is responsible for the deployment of our range of simulators and Vessel Traffic control systems. The Engineer will have a background in IT and maritime equipment systems design, installation and support using standard network components in a Microsoft windows environment. The role has responsibility for the design, configuration and installation of these systems and interfacing to 3rd party equipment and controls (Radar, VHF, AIS, navigational systems…). During the installation phase you may be required to manage other engineering resources and sub-contractors. Safety is important to Wartsila, the Maritime Service Engineer is responsible to maintain a safe working site and to identify and mitigate all safety hazards. 

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

 

  •        Performing allocated works: Installation, participation in FAT/SAT, local coordination of works with customer’s representatives and other suppliers.
  •        Project technical specification, system design drawings and scope of supply preparation and review
  •       Identification and evaluation of technical solutions, preferred models and vendors for 3d party equipment which is to be used within the scope of supply
  •        Performing customer support by email, phone and on-site, participation in customer visits.
  •       Performing quality control of completed job

 

What do we expect from you?

 

  •        Relevant BS degree and/or applicable IT/Electrical/ Maritime Electronics certification
  •        Fluent in French language
  •        Fluent English spoken and written incl. technical English
  •        Good knowledge of Windows desktop and server operating systems, PC components and IP networking, XML and/or Python scripting
  •         Physical ability to cope with allocated work and travelling.
  •         Troubleshooting, technical skills and solution envision, personal and subordinates job planning capabilities
  •        A maritime background and/or knowledge of marine radar and communication systems is highly desirable
