Product and Operations Manager

About the Role 

 

Wärtsilä is seeking a Product & Operations Manager (12-month contract) who is adaptable, curious, and confident engaging directly with customer teams. In this role, you will bridge business needs with technical execution, ensuring customer requirements are clearly translated into actionable work for the IT development team. 

 

You will collaborate with customers, gather and analyze requirements, manage timelines, support testing efforts, lead product demos, and drive continuous process improvements—while also exploring emerging technologies. 

 

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys variety, and takes ownership beyond a traditional job description. 

 

This is a temporary, 12‑month contract position operating on a hybrid schedule, requiring four days per week onsite at our Downtown Vancouver office. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Collaborate with customer teams to understand needs and present suitable solutions. 

  • Act as the primary link between business stakeholders and the IT development team. 

  • Conduct product demonstrations and maintain transparent communication throughout project delivery. 

 

Gathering & Analysis 

  • Collect and refine business and technical requirements, translating them into clear user stories. 

  • Perform feasibility assessments and gap analyses, offering well‑founded recommendations. 

 

Product Operations & Testing 

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives that enable smarter and more efficient workflows. 

  • Test new features, validate requirements, and collaborate with developers to resolve issues promptly. 

 

Project Support 

  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking progress across project phases. 

  • Identify risks early and support reporting and documentation activities. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or technology‑related field (preferred). 

  • Experience with SDLC methodologies and Agile tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence). 

  • Ideally 2 years’ experience in software projects, business analysis, operations, or similar roles. 

  • Background in marine or port operations is an advantage. 

  • Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities, especially with customer-facing teams. 

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive, problem‑solving approach. 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. 

  • Curiosity, adaptability, and an interest in emerging technologies, including AI.

For applicants that reside in BC, the annual salary wage range is $ 80,000 CAD - $ 90,000 CAD. 

 

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration of internal equity.
