As a Strategic Purchaser, you play a key role in a dynamic and fastmoving business environment. You drive change and safeguard business performance by creating and implementing sourcing action plans within your area of responsibility. This includes managing and developing longterm relationships with existing suppliers, while actively supporting Sales and Technology in the development of new products and test orders.

 

You coordinate the internal process with your stakeholders to achieve the best possible negotiation outcomes in terms of Risk Mitigation, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.

 

In this role, you will be part of our Global Sourcing Propulsion organization, which oversees both global and local sourcing activities for Propulsion. Our teams are located in Wuxi (China), Drunen (The Netherlands), and Khopoli (India). You will report directly to the General Manager Supply Management Propulsion.

 

Your main responsibilities are

  • Stay continuously up to date with the evolving market conditions and trends relevant to our industry.
  • Collect and analyse spend, supplier data, and future supply outlooks to continuously develop and refine commodity strategies and action plans.
  • Ensure optimal performance of the supply base in terms of Quality, Delivery, and Cost (QDC).
  • Lead and coordinate the full negotiation process, including (global) contract coverage and implementation of agreed processes.
  • Maintain accurate and relevant data in management systems (e.g. SAP, IDM) and support Quality and Operations teams in the nonconformity management process.
  • Consistently enhance Wärtsilä’s competitiveness by applying strong analytical and negotiation skills with a customercentric approach.
  • Lead and drive relevant localization projects, from initiation through implementation.

 

You will shine in this role when you have:

  • Several years of experience in purchasing at a strategic and/or tactical level within a globally operating industrial or engineering organization.
  • A technicaloriented Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or an equivalent level achieved through relevant work experience in Sourcing, Supply Management, or Logistics.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex topics into clear, simple, and concise messages.
  • A proactive team player with strong initiative, comfortable taking ownership and operating in a lead role, while adapting effectively to different situations with a healthy level of selfconfidence.
  • Strong problemsolving skills, with the ability to think and act quickly while keeping solutions as simple and effective as possible.
  • Able to independently identify issues, risks, and improvement opportunities without the need for close guidance.
  • Preferably experienced in the marine industry and possessing basic legal knowledge relevant to sourcing and contracting.
  • Knowledge of projectbased sourcing for casting parts, or hydraulic parts is considered an advantage.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and experience with SAP or AI tools are an advantage.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
