We are now looking for a
Senior Sales Manager, Marine Sales Benelux
In this frontline sales position, you will report to the General Manager Sales Benelux. The role carries local sales responsibility for consultative and transactional lifecycle sales, with a primary focus on a strategic growth customer in the Dredging & Offshore Energy segment. The preferred office location is Schiedam, the Netherlands.
This role is critical to strengthening Wärtsilä Marine market position and translating customer demand into realised order intake through proactive account management, disciplined opportunity development, and value-based consultative selling. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing long-term customer relationships, expanding lifecycle business opportunities, and driving sustainable growth within a strategically important customer portfolio (Dredging & Offshore segment).
To succeed in this role, close collaboration with internal stakeholders and Business Units, including Sales Proposals (Development), Parts & Field Services, Technical Services, and other lifecycle solution teams, is essential to deliver customer value and achieve business objectives.
Your main responsibilities are
- Proactively engage with key customers and internal/ external stakeholders to grow the consultative and transactional sales in line with budgets/ set targets in the Benelux region.
- Proven ability to drive revenue and share of wallet (SoW) growth in lifecycle / spare parts business, with a strong focus on successful conversion of field service and spare parts business demands (hit-rate improvement).
- Demonstrated success in capturing untapped order intake through structured follow-up and customer ownership
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate installed base into sustainable revenue streams
- Experience in managing high-volume consultative sales environments while prioritising high-value opportunities
- Support and develop sales through systematic customer contact scheduling, ensuring proactive calling occurs at the most impactful moments in time.
- Ensure leads are addressed and captured.
- Proactively plan sales for assigned customers to maximise our share of wallet in close cooperation with the product line
- Proactively share gained market insights and customer knowledge internally to develop regional customer understanding
- Manage stakeholders by building a good network (both internally and externally) of relationships with customers, influencers, and decision makers.
- High level of CRM discipline (Salesforce or similar), ensuring data quality, transparency, and actionable insights
- Ensure all customer related information & opportunities are recorded in CRM and maintain accurate customer records among assigned customer accounts.
- Ensure a well-working feedback loop with local Parts and Field Services organization, Global Lead Management, Parts Coordination Management and Sales Proposals to maximize the number of leads and optimize the collaboration.
- Generate customer intelligence and explore new business opportunities.
- Build value propositions for sales opportunities as required to develop markets.
Main requirements in this role are (You will shine in this role when):
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in engineering/ business/ naval/ maritime studies.
- 7+ years of professional (sales) work experience in a marine business environment, preferable with a solid technical understanding of marine technology (power supply, propulsion, ship electrification solutions)
- Experience in promoting bundled solutions to maximise customer value and share of wallet
- Knowledge of dredging & offshore segment dynamics and customer operating models
- Demonstrate developing commercial capabilities with a good track record of consultative sales.
- Good knowledge of the regional market sectors and its drivers.
- Customer focused with service minded attitude along with sound commercial understanding
- Performance and result orientated.
- Proficient in the use of CRM and ability to create targets and sales activity plans.
- Excellent communication & social skills, fluency in written and spoken English and Dutch.
- Can demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to showcase sound logic and reasoning for meeting customer’s needs.
